Zone: C1 body (C1 close to C1 open). CE: (C1 open + C1 close) ÷ 2. Enter LONG at CE on retracement. Stop below C1’s wick low. Target: BSL / AMD bullish delivery level. C2’s wick above may create a rejection block at that wick level — a separate, higher-priced zone.
Zone: C1 body (C1 open to C1 close). CE: (C1 open + C1 close) ÷ 2. Enter SHORT at CE on retracement. Stop above C1’s wick high. Target: SSL / AMD bearish delivery level.
| Attribute | Standard OB | Suspension block |
|---|---|---|
| Candle count to displacement | 2 (C1 OB + C2 displacement) | 3 (C1 OB + C2 suspension + C3 displacement) |
| C2 body position | Fully exits C1’s body range | Stays within C1’s body range |
| C2 wick | May or may not extend beyond C1 | Must extend beyond C1’s body boundary |
| Zone | C1 body range | C1 body range (identical) |
| CE formula | (C1 open + C1 close) ÷ 2 | (C1 open + C1 close) ÷ 2 (identical) |
| Zone tested before displacement | No — displacement is immediate | Yes — C2 tested and C1’s body held |
| Validation level | Standard | Enhanced — pre-tested zone |
Not touching the boundary but distinctly inside. If C2’s body touches or marginally exceeds C1’s body boundary, it is ambiguous between a standard OB and a suspension block.
5+ pips, visibly extending. A wick that barely exceeds C1’s body by a single tick may be noise rather than an institutional test.
Large body, minimal wicks, closes well beyond C1’s body range. C3 must look institutional — not a gradual drift. The displacement validates C1 as the zone.
Bullish suspension block below the CE (discount). Bearish above the CE (premium). The same P/D quality filter as every other PD array.
Price has not returned to C1’s body range since C3 confirmed the displacement. Fresh zones only.
C1 (opposing candle) → C2 (body within C1’s body, wick beyond) → C3 (full displacement). Do not label until C3 has closed with its body beyond C1’s boundary.
C2 body clearly inside, C2 wick meaningfully beyond, C3 genuine displacement, correct P/D zone, unmitigated.
Zone = C1’s body range (C1 open to C1 close). CE = (C1 open + C1 close) ÷ 2. Check for a C2/C3 FVG within C1’s body — if present, the FVG CE is the highest-precision entry.
Price retraces into C1’s body range. Wait for LTF CHoCH within the zone — this confirms the same institutional absorption that held C2’s body is holding the retracement.
Enter at CE or on CHoCH. Stop beyond C1’s wick extreme. Target: AMD ERL (PDH/PWH for bullish, PDL/PWL for bearish).
The suspension block zone is ALWAYS C1’s body range. C2 defines the pattern type (suspension candle) but does not redefine the zone. C2’s wick may create a rejection block zone at a different price — but the suspension block zone is C1.
Not every inside-bar sequence is a suspension block. The C2 candle must have its wick extending beyond C1’s body boundary (the test component) and C3 must be a genuine displacement. An inside-bar without a wick extension and without a displacement is just consolidation.
C3 is the validation. Until C3’s body closes beyond C1’s body boundary, the pattern is not confirmed — it may be a failed OB setup rather than a suspension block.
In some ICT community discourse, “suspension block” loosely means any fresh unmitigated OB. The candle-pattern definition (C1+C2+C3) is more specific and more useful for identification. When encountering the term, check which usage is intended.
If C3’s displacement creates an FVG whose zone falls within C1’s body range, the OB+FVG overlap exists — the FVG CE within the suspension block zone is the highest-precision entry (Priority #2 in the PD array ranking).
